Relationship Between Company Car Tax and Motor Vehicle Tax
If a business uses a passenger car, it typically has to pay both the motor vehicle tax and the company car tax.
According to the rules, the motor vehicle tax can be deducted from the company car tax, but only if:
Both tax obligations apply to the same vehicle – i.e., the motor vehicle tax and company car tax are both due for the same passenger car.
The motor vehicle tax was paid on time – if this isn’t done by the April 15 deadline, the company car tax cannot be reduced.
Both taxes are paid by the same entity – for example, if the car is owned by a private individual but the company pays the company car tax, this deduction option cannot be used.
